Yes, La Jolla Shores Beach is dog-friendly and makes our curated list of the best dog-friendly beaches in San Diego. You’ll see pups walking along the beach all day, but there are some important official restrictions to keep in mind. From November 1 through March 31, dogs are not allowed on the beach, boardwalk, or adjacent parks between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. During the warmer months, from April 1 through October 31, the restriction extends to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Outside of these hours, dogs are welcome on the beach as long as they are on a leash. So, this area is perfect for any early morning or evening strolls with Fido.

La Jolla Shores is a large, flat beach—about a mile long—providing plenty of space for dogs to roam. It’s a great option for nervous or shy dogs, as there is enough room for them to meet new friends or avoid other dogs if they prefer. The beach also offers picturesque views, with Scripps Pier serving as an excellent distance marker. For easy access, you can park in the La Jolla Shores Beach parking lot next to Kellogg Park, which features a fun playground for kids, a spacious grassy area, and a new mosaic map of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve that highlights local sea life.
